Clive
Clive (Clive Brookes) was born in Norwich and educated at Norwich School. He studied for his honours degree in Art and Education in Canterbury, Kent before teaching 3-D art and ceramics in Dover. He had solo and group shows in Kent before returning to Norfolk in 1985 to teach high school art until 2009. Clive continues his art work whilst living in South Norfolk with his wife.
Clive has been exhibiting from an early age. He began making sculpture when he was thirteen and this is still at the heart of his work. He is also well known for his paintings, drawings and ceramics. There are a number of themes which run through his work, and many are seen in his signature spherical or circular designs. He is interested in growth from the microscopic to the Universal. Population, weather, disease and the effect they have on the environment have contributed towards many works in recent years. There are often many layers of meaning in Clive’s work, but he is pleased to hear fresh thoughts from others.
A significant series dealt with thoughts and how they come to or affect us. A new series of small spherical handheld sculptures is proceeding well.
Clive’s work has found a home in many private collections here and abroad. He is now a Vice-President and was President of the prestigious Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle. He started a number of exhibiting and art appreciation groups himself. You can visit Clive’s studio by appointment.
