Ruth lives in rural Norfolk with her husband and dog. Her time is mostly split between their caravan in Lincolnshire, making art and her garden which she loves to tend.
Ruth caught the Art bug having taken early retirement from the Civil Service in 2007. Having experimented with many media, she soon found her main medium, soft pastels, which she loves to work with for the tactile feel, the colours and the ease of putting pigment to paper. Soft pastels are pure pigment, sometimes with a binder. The pigment is the same as that which goes into oil and watercolour paints.
Ruth’s interest is in representational and impressionistic art. She does not stick to one subject matter. She likes to work on all sorts of subjects, figurative work including portraits and animals, landscape, flowers, whatever inspires her at a given time. She finds that moving from one subject to another keeps her fresh and keen and also helps to improve her skills as an artist.
Ruth has shown and sold work in many local exhibitions, including the annual Royal Norfolk Show and those run by the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle. Her works also hang in places as far flung as the USA, Australia and many European countries.
