ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

JULIE WHITTAKER

Julie Whittaker is a British contemporary artist based in Norfolk, UK. She enjoys working in both acrylic paint and watercolours ,as well as coloured pencil. She often uses a mixture of these media in her work, exploring the loose spontaneity of some water colour techniques in combination with the precision of other media to recreate her visual memories. She layers her chosen materials to capture the light quality of her subjects.

Julie trained at Norwich School of Art, now Norwich University of the Arts. She then completed a BA Honours in the Arts with the Open University, followed by a PGCE at the UEA. After retiring from a busy career as a teacher and bringing up her daughter, Julie has now reconnected with her love of art and nature.

Inspiration for her work comes from her love of nature and walking in our fabulous ,diverse countryside and coastline. She records the landscapes, plants, birds and animals that she sees in our locality. Julie feels that connecting with the natural world helps with well being in a busy, modern world. She hopes that exposure to the wonders of the natural world on our own doorstep, will encourage and motivate people to protect and nurture our natural habitats.

Ian, her husband, often creates bespoke frames for her work, from salvaged and reclaimed native, hardwoods.

Julie is a member of The Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle and The Beccles Art Society.
